According to Amanda Joy Ravenhill’s reading, almost all past collapsed civilizations had two things in common:
Natural resources weren’t respected. Radical wealth inequality happened right before collapse.
As Amanda sees it, the signs are here and humanity needs to take a 180 degree turn, NOW.
“We’re so on the edge, I don’t think incremental change will be much different than the worst case scenario.”
Look at your handprint. What is your burning desire? What is your contribution to the future? What are you uniquely capable of doing? Sometimes we may doubt that we have what it takes to play a part in the emergence of a new future. Each one of us has a unique resource we can focus our energy on to make a change, whether it’s work, ideas, time or money.
Do What You Love, Change The World.
Take action. Now!
Amanda Joy believes that each human being has unique gifts, each with a piece of the puzzle that contributes to the collective whole.
What multiplies the benefit of our actions is when we take action in partnership with others. Work with all local communities, think hyper local. This type of considered action is the difference between acting from a potentially damaging and subtly neo-colonial way to changing systemic ways of oppression.
When the discussion turned to global wealth inequality and the black lives matter movement Amanda Joy offered sage advice.
“I think we all need to be comfortable with the idea of reparations and basically go through some sort of global truth and reconciliation process”
What would a future look like where the wellbeing of all global citizens is considered?
What if humanity considered itself apex healers rather than apex predators?
Two simple ways to see and consider our impact on the planet is to ask ourselves:
What are the root causes of what’s happening right now? What are the downstream effects of our actions?
Actions to Instigate Change
Amanda suggests these bold actions that have a ripple effect on the world around you:
Change how you eat. Eating local, organic and regenerative foods supports your immune system and nourishes you properly. Making decisions from a nourished place makes a huge impact. Grow your own food, grow your own medicine (herbs, tinctures and teas) and teach your neighbours how to do it too!Stop and listen. Listening is what is needed now if we are to dismantle white supremacy in our society. Consider this prompt for your journal or a conversation with a friend:
How many times a day do I think ‘I am superior to someone because I’m an artist, I have an education, because I started a company…?’ These are subtle places where our attitudes of superiority hide.
