PROOF 15 – Disruption is here for good

Hello Reader,

For the great expanse of human history most of us have lived lives that stretch from day to day with little change.  When disruption came, it was likely existential – war, famine, drought, earthquakes etc., bringing an end to the day-to-day world and often to life itself.

Today we live in the age of disruption. Changes are accelerating and stacking up in layers of complexity such that we can no longer “figure it out”. If we pull on one strand of the gordian knot we affect all of the others. It is on this stage that a fair number of us are trying to see a way to produce thriving at a level never achieved before.  And we are confronted by one simple truth about this fragile complex system of ours: We cannot solve for one issue without needing to solve for all issues.

A good example of this is the world’s central banks who have for some time used quantitative easing to pump liquidity into the markets – they print money.  This money goes into the markets and drives “growth”.  This growth is not caused by the assets in the market but rather by speculation and taking profit out of the market.  This exacerbates wealth inequality and thus power inequality.  So if you are working on poverty there is no long term solution that does not require tackling wealth inequality; which means tackling quantitative easing and the power to print money that the central banks have.  Stop them from printing and the economy collapses and the poor suffer – a gordian knot indeed.

What is there to do? We say that we have to reimagine everything and then work backwards. The generative future holds the key to creating an anti-fragile system that works for everyone and everything.  Sound impossible?  Perhaps, but this kind of reinvention of everything is exactly what kicked off our current system.  Thinkers like Adam Smith, Emanuel Kant and the framers of the American experiment invented a new system and up-leveled the thriving of the world.

Their time has passed and our time has come.
Are you ready to boldly reimagine everything?

We are!
